SettleTab Terms of Service

About these terms#

These terms are an agreement between you and Code Matrix LLC ("we", "us"), the company that makes SettleTab. By using SettleTab on the web, on iOS or on Android, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use SettleTab.

What SettleTab does#

SettleTab is a bill-splitting app for friends, housemates and travel groups. It helps you:

Scan a receipt with AI to pull out the items and prices
Assign items to the people who had them
Split tax, service charges and discounts fairly
Track what each person owes across many expenses
Suggest the fewest payments needed to settle up

SettleTab never moves money#

SettleTab is a record-keeping tool. It does not process, hold, send or receive payments. When you settle up, you pay each other directly, for example in cash, by bank transfer or in your own payment app.

Payment QR codes you add to your profile are stored as text and shown to the people you split with so they can pay you in their own app. SettleTab does not take part in that payment.

Your account#

You can try SettleTab on your device without an account. To share a group, sync between devices or scan receipts, you need an account. You can sign up with Google, Apple or an email address.

You are responsible for keeping your sign-in details secure and for activity under your account. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms or that are used for fraud or abuse.

Receipt scanning and AI#

SettleTab uses Google Gemini, through our servers, to read receipt photos. AI extraction is not perfect. Always review scanned items, amounts and totals before you save an expense.

When you upload a receipt, you confirm that you have the right to share it and that it does not contain information you do not want processed.

Fair use#

SettleTab is free with no daily limits on groups, members or expenses. To keep AI scanning free for everyone, there is a fair-use cap of 60 scans per account in any 24 hours. Each receipt can have up to 5 pages. If you reach the cap, you can still type items in by hand.

Your data#

Your records are shared only with the members of the groups you create or join. Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect and how we use it.

You own your data. You can export any group as a CSV or PDF file from the group menu, and you can delete your account at any time from your profile.

Acceptable use#

Please use SettleTab responsibly. Do not:

Use SettleTab for anything illegal
Harass, abuse or spam other people
Upload malicious content or viruses
Try to hack, overload or interfere with the service
Impersonate others or create fake accounts

Service availability#

We work hard to keep SettleTab running, but we cannot promise it will always be available. We may need to pause the service for maintenance, and technical problems can happen.

SettleTab is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the extent the law allows.

Limitation of liability#

SettleTab is a calculation and record-keeping tool. We are not responsible for disagreements between you and your group about who owes what, or for payments you make or receive outside the app. We do our best to make the math correct, but we are not liable for financial losses that result from using SettleTab, to the extent the law allows.

Changes to these terms#

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will tell you by email or in the app. If you keep using SettleTab after a change, you accept the updated terms.
